What is The Queer Psychotherapy Collective?

The Queer Psychotherapy Collective is an online mental health treatment platform serving the queer communities in Minnesota and Florida.

We provide queer individuals, couples, and families with meaningful, affordable, available, and secure professional online counseling.

We offer secure video, voice, and messaging sessions. The Queer Psychotherapy Collective provides online counseling through your smartphone, tablet, or computer − no matter where you are. There are no gimmicks or subscriptions with actual online counseling and support.

What are your office hours?
Each therapist at The Queer Psychotherapy Collective sets office hours and manages their appointments.
What is your hourly fee?

Individual Sessions cost $195 per 50 minutes. Couples/Relationship Counseling costs $250 for 60 minutes.

A sliding scale is available through openpathcollective.org. Please register for Open Path Collective and select one of our therapists. This site provides a link to each therapist’s profile.

What forms of payment do you take?

You can pay for your counseling session from your insurance-based Health Savings Account – HSA/Flex Spending Debit/credit card. We accept payment for counseling sessions from Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover, JCB, and Diner’s Club.

Do you take insurance?

The Queer Psychotherapy Collective is an out-of-network provider of mental health services. We can, however, provide a Superbill to clients who want to file a reimbursement claim directly to their insurance company. You must notify us in advance if you would like a Superbill. We generate Superbills monthly in the Simple Practice electronic health client portal for you to download and submit.

Insurance companies may require a doctor’s visit and referral to a psychotherapist. In addition, your insurance company may have a waiting list that is weeks or months long. Insurance can have huge deductibles and only pay for a limited number of sessions.

How do I make an appointment for my free 20-minute session?
Submit the inquiry form by clicking here, and a therapist will call or email you within 24 hours, Monday through Friday. We will contact you the following Monday for weekend submissions. When a Holiday falls on a Monday, the therapist will call the next Tuesday.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please remember to cancel or reschedule with your counselor 48 hours in advance. If you fail to notify your counselor within this window of time, we will charge you the full fee for the missed session.
How long are counseling sessions?

The standard meeting time for psychotherapy is 50 minutes. However, it is up to you to determine the length of time of your sessions.

What types of therapy do you offer LGBTQIA+ individuals?

Individual Psychotherapy – LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy is available in one-to-one sessions, and we accept you as you are. You can safely explore all areas of your life with a fellow traveler on your journey.

Couples Counseling – We offer counseling for same-sex/same-gender couples, couples of diverse gender identities, and mixed-orientation relationships. Relationships take all forms, including a gay male with a trans female, a trans male with a lesbian, a trans male with a gay male, a straight male with a bi-female, and the combinations go on and on. There is no one right type of couple. They are all honored.

Gender-Affirming Therapy – You have the right to define and describe your gender. We will not assess your gender but will provide your opportunity to explore your gender. You will receive gender affirmation and be empowered to claim your space.

Hormone and Surgery Assessments – We provide referral letters for gender-affirming hormone therapy and surgical assessments for Transgender and Non-Binary clients utilizing the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care. Minnesota and Florida have different laws for access to trans-affirming health care, legally changing your name, or designating your sex marker on state-issued identification and driver’s licenses.

Polyamorous Counseling – This counseling helps you develop a successful polyamorous relationship based on honesty, open communication, and respect. You will receive counseling from a polyamorous-friendly therapist.

Open Relationships – This form of counseling is for couples in open relationships who want to enhance their intimate, sexual, sensual, and often emotional connections. We will address the “what if” questions, including fear, insecurity, doubt, and jealousy.

Consensual Non-monogamous Counseling – Counseling for Consensual non-monogamous relationships is for all partners who agree that having romantic and/or sexual relationships with other people is acceptable.

Counseling for those in Adult Entertainment – In this counseling format, you will receive stigma-free counseling and mental health support for individuals who are adult entertainers or those involved in various aspects of sex work and seek a non-judgmental therapist. It is your life, and you do not need to be rescued by your therapist.

BDSM Kink Aware Counseling – Most psychotherapists view BDSM and Kink from a position of psychopathology. In Kink-Affirming therapy, we don’t look to change or fix you. We want to dispel feelings of shame and guilt while looking to integrate Kink and BDSM safely into your life.
